The 4th Annual Seafarer’s Party was held 23-25 November at the beautiful island of Boracay in Malay Aklan, about 315 km south of Manila. A popular tourist spot in the Philippines, Boracay and its four kilometer - long white beach is one of the best in the world. Ninety five seafarers and their families, HFS management representatives and HFSP staff trooped to the island and stayed at the Boracay Regency Hotel.
A welcome dinner was held in the beachfront where an island set-up complemented the barbeque party. A unique and exciting fire dance was performed by local performers, to the delight of the guests.
The second day was allotted for a competitive Amazing Race activity which took the four teams all over the island performing several tasks, racing against time and harnessing their best strategies and marketing prowess. Players of the color coded teams, to the cheers of their families and team members enjoyed the games and their renewed team spirits. Pink team led by Capt. Dante Elpedes emerged the winner.
The highlight of the party is the fellowship night held on the 24th . A pirate- inspired theme transformed the Boracay Convention Center in a mirage of tropical colors, buffet settings, lights and music. Attendees came in their pirates costumes and were entertained by Caribbean dancers , local boom-boom players and HFSP staff /seafarers wives dancers. Everybody played the pirates atmosphere to the fullest, parading in their creative and colorful costumes and even doing a pirate’s fight skit! Two pairs won the best in pirate costume awards, Capt. and Mrs. Dante Elpedes and Cheng and Mrs. Leopoldo Cirera. Loyalty awards were then handed out to twenty awardees led by Capt. Pio Lambuzon with his platinum award. Three special awards were given to Capt. Dante Elpedes, Eng2 Edward San Juan and Choff Edgar Locaben, for having started their careers as cadets and spent all their seafaring lives at HFS.
Day three was prepared for attendees who joined an optional island tour where two boats took them to Crocodile islands for snorkeling and fish feeding. They also explored the Twin Caves and enjoyed the cool waters.
In between all activities, attendees just enjoyed the cool amihan breeze, warm waters, sugar-fine white sand and first class hotel amenities to the fullest. Everybody went home recharged, de - stressed, happy and grateful after three days of fun, bonding and camaraderie. Even the threat of a super typhoon Mina failed to dampen the spirits!!!
