Höegh Autoliners assisted in evacuation from Beirut

The Höegh Autoliners Ro/Ro vessel M/V HUAL Transporter assisted the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) in evacuating Norwegian and other foreign citizens from the unrest in Lebanon and Beirut. On 19 July 2006 the vessel reached Larnaca in Cyprus with 1120 passengers onboard.

HUAL Transporter was enroute from US and Europe to the Middle East and Far East, and was turned around in Egypt to Cyprus where it picked up extra life saving equipment and supplies before proceeding to Beirut. A support team from MFA joined the vessel. On 18 July 1120 passengers embarket in Beirut, including Norwegian, Finnish, Swedish, Danish and US citizens.

The efforts and professional execution of the mission by Captain Rodrigo D. Cabarles Jr. and the crew has been highly appreciated and recognized by representatives on board and in Oslo from the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Jonas Gahr Störe, called Westye Höegh and Leif O. Höegh to thank Höegh for the excellent co-operation of the Höegh organization as a whole and the professionalism of the HUAL Transporter crew in particular.
